The Hinesburg Food Shelf (HFS) is a non-profit charitable organization run by volunteers. In 2006, the HFS gave out over seventeen tons of food. They currently serve an average of 60 families per month.
Each family receives dried and canned staples, as well as a coupon for a gallon of milk at Lantman's Best Yet for each family with children. Cheese, eggs and beef are added when available. Each family can also choose a bag of miscellaneous items.
Funding comes from many individuals and organizations. Many gifts come from individuals and area businesses. Special fund-raisers have included dinners. Several grants also help to purchase the supplies we are able to give out. The Hinesburg Community School, Curves, Drs. Peet and area churches sponsor food drives. The Lion's Club and Schip help support the milk program. There are also drop boxes at Lantman's Best Yet.
Our operation is assisted by community churches, as well as by faithful volunteers who sort, stack the shelves, and set up boxes. The HFS is an agency with the Vermont Foodbank, in South Barre that leverages funds by corporate donations, reclaim and close to pull date items and are able to buy items at reduced prices.
Please consider what you can do to help our neighbors. All contributions are tax-deductible. To donate, you may reach one of our volunteers listed below, or mail to our post office box. Please make checks payable to HCRC Food Shelf.
If we can help you, please call us. We are open Friday mornings 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at the rear entrance of the United Church. |
