Energy Committee

Mission Statement

The Hinesburg Energy Committee's mission is to promote the wise use of energy resources in the town of Hinesburg. Through research, education and awareness efforts, the committee will help residents and town officials conserve energy and help them transition to renewable sources of energy.

Energy Committee Goals

  1. Work with the Planning Commission, the Select Board and other town boards and departments to help research and then advice and educate about energy related concerns.
  2. Minimalize Hinesburg’s reliance on non-renewable energy sources.
  3. Assist the town of Hinesburg to enroll in the PACE program.
  4. Work with Efficiency Vermont and other state wide programs to inform Hinesburg residents and businesses about incentive programs that will help them conserve energy and install renewable energy.
  5. Enthusiastically promote energy efficiency and energy conservation in residential homes, municipal buildings and commercial structures in Hinesburg.
  6. After conservation and efficiency measures have been achieved, enthusiastically promote renewable energy in residential homes, municipal buildings and commercial structures in Hinesburg.
  7. Collaborate with other towns to share information and efforts to promote efficiency and renewable energy regionally.
  8. Collaborate with other town committees, commissions and departments to promote the wise use of energy resources including transportation issues.
  9. Explore options to locally produce community renewable energy.
  10. Educate the residents of Hinesburg about the connection between energy use and the release of carbon to the atmosphere and the concern of climate change.
  11. Explore the possibility of Hinesburg becoming a Vermont Transition Town.
